This time I’ll show an easy way to construct a hero’s head using vectors in Flash. In a later tutorial I will show a simple anatomy for a hero’s body and then I will post another tutorial with a character that uses both things.
You should begin then with an eye shape. You will see in later tutorials this same shape repeated throughout a hero’s body.
So what you end up with is a sort of cartoony skull. This basic shape is then deformed to construct a variety of heads.
The bottom curve of the eye shape we began with serves as a good guideline for eyes and nose placement. For heroes you should aim for big jaw and chin.
I used the stroke fill tool to create a border around the shape.
